RELIGION DISCRIMINATION & HARASSMENT

RELIGION DISCRIMINATION & HARASSMENT

In most situations, the law prohibits employment discrimination, harassment, and retaliation against employees because of an employee’s religion. Further, the law requires employers to make reasonable accommodations for their employees’ religious beliefs that are associated with traditional religions, as well as religious “observances and practices.” Persons protected from religious discrimination include employees, job applicants, temporary, and former employees.

An employer must accommodate not just the employee’s religious belief, but also a religious observance, if reasonably possible without undue hardship.
